Pick of the best PICNIC HAMPERS

Guardian - The Guide 6th August 2005

Shish 71-75 Bishops Bridge Road , W2 ( tel 020 7229 7300) Mon- fri 11am-12midnight; Sat 10:30am -12midnight; Sun 10:30am-11pm

This expanding chain, whose shtick is street/fast food of the silk route, does a good, sturdy cardboard picnic hamper which can be ordered ahead or in-store. Hampers are for two and we found the portions quite generous, at least in the deluxe hamper - four cold mezze , two summer salads, falafel, chicken and lamb wraps, plus a couple of cold beers. I liked the Afghan fatoush - chicken in a spicy yoghurt marinade - and that good old standby, watermelon and feta salad. Something sweet would have been nice to finish, some baklava perhaps? But you're on your own after the main courses.
